I have several smaller sites on Ezoic and for 2023 I’ll be doing regular monthly income report updates on how these sites are doing.
Since these are all smaller sites, I think this will be a great for those of you who are new to niche sites or who don’t have a ton of time to grow a site.
My intent is to grow these sites a bit and then move them out of my portfolio…because I have far too many sites these days.
Since I am planning on doing monthly updates on these sites, I want to start with a look back at how each of them performed for all of 2022.
Also, I want to point out that I currently have a total of 5 sites on Ezoic, but I expect that number will increase throughout 2023.
And, if you prefer, you can watch this on YouTube instead of reading the blog post.
Note: The sites in this report are only a portion of my portfolio and not the only sites that bring in revenue.
**And as always, I’m an affiliate marketer and this post contains affiliate links, meaning I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my link.
Site 1: Food/Drink Niche
Of the five sites I have on Ezoic, this one brought in the most revenue for 2022.
That’s because it has a good number of affiliate posts, so I’m earning from both Amazon affiliate links and Ezoic ads.
As you can see in the screenshot from my earnings dashboard, the average EPMV for this site for all of 2022 was $5.85.
It’s interesting to see that AdSeSense mediation picked up for a while in the summer pretty good.
I should really go into Big Data Analytics in my account to see if I can find out what posts caused that.
Anyways, I didn’t really do much with this site in 2022 as it was not really earning enough to be a priority for me.
Only a few new posts were published on this site, with me picking topics based on articles that were showing me the highest EPMV in my Big Data Analytics.
But essentially this site was just coasting along on auto-pilot.
This site did take a hit in the May 2022 core update, but removing a topic cluster of content that wasn’t related enough to the main focus of the site recovered this one.
All in, this site earned $2,093.88 in 2022 with me doing next to nothing on it all year.
Site 2: Religion/Spirituality Niche
I started this site toward the end of 2021 and hired a subject matter expert to write a bunch of content in early 2022.
That writer got paid just over $6,000 for the content she created. It’s good stuff – but just not performing the way that I would expect.
So, I stopped posting content in Q2 2022 to see what Google would do with the site.
Only a single post has an affiliate link in it, with Ezoic being responsible for the bulk of the income here.
As you can see in the screenshot from my earnings dashboard, the average EPMV for this site for all of 2022 was $5.01.
And the AdSense mediation started going crazy in July 2022 – why? Who knows!?
Other than paying that writer, no other work was done on this site and it’s been a disappointment with all that content from the subject matter expert.
Well, with the popularity of chatGPT in Q4 2022, I decided to start playing around with creating AI-assisted content for this site to see how it would do.
I got some promising early results, so I’ll expand on that some in 2023.
Part of this experiment was to test new content clusters and check my Ezoic Big Data Analytics to see if those new clusters are a good idea in terms of EPMV.
Also, I’m thinking about changing the domain name to something not quite so niched down, which would allow me more freedom to explore related topics.
All in, this site earned $282.19 in 2022 with me doing practically nothing on it all year.
Site 3: Food/Drink Niche #2
Though not on the exact same sub-topic, this is another site in the food and drink niche.
Honestly, I love sites in this broad niche because they are evergreen and you never run out of content topics.
So, this is a newer site that I started in 2022 and didn’t get onto Ezoic until Q3 2022.
I love that AdSense Mediation has been boosting my ad income on this site right from the start.
That may be why this site has the highest EPMV of all my Ezoic sites in 2022.
As you can see in the screenshot from my earnings dashboard, the average EPMV for this site for all of 2022 was $8.94.
For this site, I did an initial content sprint and left it to sit….never to return to it in 2022.
The screenshot above shows that initial good traffic burst and then a die down of it.
That happens sometimes.
You may notice in the screenshot above what appears to be this site getting hammered by an update for a brief period in December.
That’s not what happened.
What happened was that I moved the site to new hosting and my Ezoic integration went haywire and decided to take my site down for a few days…and I was out of town.
So, a few days later the site was live again.
Anyways, seeing how much this site made from Ezoic and Amazon in such a short period of time has me excited to get to work on this one and flip it.
I’m also really interested in possibly testing Humix on this and seeing how much this site will earn from videos.
And a quick note here – this site was built on an Odys Global aged domain.
All in, this site earned $534.40 in 2022 with me dumping around 30 articles on it and not touching it again.
Site 4: Tech/Gaming Niche
This is a site that I’ve owned for a few years that started out as a gaming site.
The RPMs in gaming are kinda terrible, so I’ve always hated this site.
That’s why in Q3 2022, I started testing out some different content – entertainment and tech-related topics.
By Q3, it became clear that tech is the topic category that Google will accept from this site.
Hopefully, that means this transition I’ll make in 2023 will result in this pitiful EPMV improving a bit.
As you can see in the screenshot from my earnings dashboard, the average EPMV for this site for all of 2022 was $2.35.
No, that’s not a typo. It truly is that terrible.
Anyways, the content experiments were really all I did on this site in 2022 and I’m looking forward to see what happens by adding more tech content to the site in 2023.
And I’m using Ezoic’s Big Data Analytics to determine which of these tech topics are most profitable for me to target in 2023.
All in, this site earned $618.73 in 2022 with me just running random content experiments on it and doing zero real work to grow ith.
Site 5: Outdoors Niche
This is another new site for me in 2022 and it really only got the benefit of earning from Ezoic for a bit of Q4 in 2022.
When I started this site, I just did a big content dump of like 200 articles as quickly as I could.
I haven’t even gone back to this site yet to assess how those articles have been performing and which ones have the best EPMV.
That’s what I’ll do in 2023, but stuff seems to be bringing in the monies already.
You may notice in the screenshot above what appears to be this site getting hammered by an update for a brief period in December.
That’s not what happened.
What happened was that I moved the site to new hosting and my Ezoic integration went haywire and decided to take my site down for a few days…and I was out of town.
So, a few days later the site was live again, and honestly, the traffic has been a bit lower ever since.
But anyways, the average EPMV for this site for all of 2022 was $6.83.
This site does have several posts with affiliate links, so it earned from those links as well.
All in, this site earned $67.37 in 2022 with me dumping around 200 articles on it and not touching it again.
2023 Plan For These Sites
I have a few things that I need to stay on top of in order to really grow these sites the way that I want.
My income goals for these sites is small, so it’s more a matter of giving them new life and then moving them the hell outta here so I can focus on the sites that make me the most money.
Here’s a quick look at my loose plan (for now):
- Site 1: add content to continue with successful clusters; use Ezoic’s Big Data Analytics for the info content that pays me the most; maybe start a YouTube channel for it.
- Site 2: continue adding AI-assisted content; maybe change the domain name; maybe start a YouTube channel for it; find ways to add affiliate content
- Site 3: add content to continue with successful clusters; use Ezoic’s Big Data Analytics for the info content that pays me the most.
- Site 4: use my 2022 content experiments to guide my content creation; use Ezoic’s Big Data Analytics for the info content that pays me the most.
- Site 5: use Ezoic’s Big Data Analytics for the info content that pays me the most; add content to continue with successful clusters
Overall, a pretty simple plan, eh?
In future updates, I’ll give you more details on what exactly I’m doing to grow these sites.
And if you’re not yet using Ezoic on your site, then why not sign up and make some sweet internet monies?
Hey, I’m Shawna. I make a living working from my laptop in places like London, Sydney, Dubai, Rome, Oslo, Bangkok, Las Vegas, Barcelona, and Amsterdam. I share how I do some of that on this website.
